Meet The Press Gang! Our Litho Printing & Finishing team
We are very proud of the quality of our printing. It doesn’t just come from using Heidelberg presses, the best in the business. Or from precision plates and colour accurate proofs. Or from a team of press operators who have a lifetime of experience in getting print right. The quality of Orphans Press print comes from fusing all these elements and safeguarding our commitment to precision printing.
We have a mix of presses to suit most commercial print work. It is hard to beat the precision quality of our two Heidelberg 5 colours presses, one SRA2 and the other our B2 Speedmaster 72. We also have a smaller SRA3 two colour and single colour presses. All use processor-less plates at up to 200lpi screening for the purest print.
We're very fortunate to have a team of very skilled operators who know their machines and take a deserved pride in the quality of work they output for our customers. On The Presses
- Allan Hall - 20 plus years with the business. The main operator of the 5 colour press. Keeps the press in tip top order to produce impeccable print and expects nothing less of the machine (and himself)
- Steve Parker - Like Allan in his third decade with the business. Very versatile and happy to turn his hand to any of the presses, whether 1, 2 or 5 colour.
- Mike Brock - A superb addition to our team and equally happy on any of the presses. With an eye to the future Mike has also taken on our Indigo Digital press which is benefiting from the precise eye for detail he keeps on our litho presses.
The Safe Hands of Our Print Finishers
The majority of work we print is finished in house. For certain more specialised work (such as laminating, perfect binding or foil blocking) we work with our established partners who provide a standard of service we trust.
We cut with two programmable guillotines. We have two folders (one for larger sheet work, the other for A3 to A4 or A4 to A5 or third A4). Documents are automatically collated, stitched and trimmed on our 20 station Horizon StitchLiner. The Horizon also makes light work of NCR and other collation work. Board covers are creased or perforated on our electronic scorer. For calendars we have 2 automatic punch machines.

Machine Finishing
- Nick Edwards - Nick's been with us so long he can remember the last time the business moved! There is no harder worker than Nick. He keeps our paper store in order and is our main guillotine operator. He also runs the Horizon 20 station booklet making line.
- Colin Gardner - Colin is our longest serving member of staff. He has a very keen eye for detail and is very able at proofing text. Colin is our main folder operator and also helps run the new Horizon booklet maker and our polywrap mailing line.

- Leah Dawson has magic hands to speedily add the finishing touch to a myriad of jobs from NCR pads, to Calendars and short run booklets.
