Books - Litho & Digital

We like all aspects of book printing. In some instances our service is to produce the books from supplied artwork; just as often we are involved with the author or publisher in the setting and artwork of the book itself, recommending materials and finish. Digital printing has made producing 'the book in me' far more accessible so our service now extends beyond commercial book printing into the growing vanity publishing or self publishing market.

Short run digital vanity or self published books

We can provide advice on publication, input into layout, fonts and cover design which is so important to catch the eye of the potential reader. Your book can be perfect or case bound or perhaps wiro bound (ideal for recipe books).  More than ever writing and publishing a book can be within the reach of us all, whether printed in thousands on litho presses or in smaller number short run digital books for the extended family only.

Most authors now need their book to be available also in ePub format for reading on iPad or Kindles or similar portable devices. We can either adapt an existing book to ePub or ensure that the setting of a new title is easy to convert. The advent of ePub has added an exciting new dimension to reading which our Publisher friends believe will see the printed and digital versions complementing each other and having a beneficial long term effect on the print sector. We hope so!

We regularly print local books covering interesting histories of Herefordshire towns and villages or documenting the lives of its people. We also work effectively with self publishers, often in distant locations. We find that a mix of email and telephone calls and perhaps an opening and interim meeting can make the process painless and quick. Often we can support individuals embarking on a self published book project for the first time and provide re-assurance that the path they are about to follow is well established. Our work with Mary Sheaff on her title 'Tortoise Hill' is a good example and featured in our portfolio.
