Hampton Court Castle

Hampton Court Castle is one of the UK’s oldest and largest, castles with a rich history dating back to 1427 and King Henry IV. Today, the estate boasts an internationally acclaimed walled garden, stunning parkland, and of course, the castle itself which is open to day visitors and available for weddings and celebrations.

Throughout this project we were acutely aware that our rebrand was not only accountable to the family that own Hampton Court, but perhaps more so to the generations of regular visitors for whom the place has become a part of their own stories. We too quickly fell in love with the castle and set about defining the rich story it had to tell. The brand and website needed to communicate not only the undeniable elegance and grandeur but also the warmth, beauty and drama.

We worked with the Wood family to construct a new, refined coat of arms that pulled out just a few of the castle’s characters: pulling insignia from the previous owners heraldry with a few whimsical additions. Our in-house illustrator produced the final piece in woodcut, representing the medieval site comfortably while maintaining a contemporary outlook.

The castle and gardens sell themselves which meant that the website needed to let the photography shout from an unfussy and simple framework that's user friendly and intuitive. The various illustrated diamonds are taken from the intricate chapel ceiling and wrought iron gates, recoloured and stylised to suit the new brand. The warm stone walls, grass lawns and bright borders of the estate inspired the muted colour palette that has been designed to be appropriate for the many faces of Hampton Court; children’s trails, weddings, coach parties, family day’s out. Our various print materials have made use of our extensive knowledge of materials and finishes to impress even the most discerning brides.

The reward for this project has come in the overwhelming reception the rebrand has received. We often enjoy long relationships with our clients. It was a pleasure to rebrand a client that we’d known for over a decade and look forward to cultivating the brand for years to come.
