Indigo Digital Printing

Fabulous digital colour printing

The HP Indigo is, in our estimation, the highest quality digital printing press. Using liquid inks, just like a litho press, the Indigo delivers a standard of colour and feel so close to the supreme quality of our Speedmaster litho presses you won’t notice the difference. We've operated Indigo's for a decade and more so we know you will be delighted by the results.

It has to be Indigo because we don’t want customers to expect different standards from Orphans – and you won’t.

Short run & Personalisation

With the Indigo we print directly from your file, great for quick turnaround jobs. No plates, so it is cost effective to print smaller quantities and much quicker. It also allows every sheet to be different so jobs such as books or calendars can be printed in collated order saving on finishing time. The Indigo is ideal for personalisation (or variable data) where we link your artwork to a database, perhaps postcards printed with the recipient address; or covers printed with a unique promotional code or even better a different name. Why not let your creativity loose and consider image personalisation to set your job apart and really catch the eye!  Personalisation or variable data printing is where the Indigo really earns it's stripes.

Our Indigo loves ...

... nice work! It is great too on bread and butter jobs but really comes into it's own with demanding design, beautiful illustrations or amazing photography. That's why we love the challenging but fulfilling work which comes our way.

Make it feel as good as it looks

We have a lot of experience of papers and boards which work well with the Indigo. Stock is important on all jobs. We have some great standard materials as well as the extra special such as GF Smith or Rives.  Please do let us know if you would like to explore options.

A little more about the press

The Indigo prints on an SRA3 sheet (up to 480 x 330) – allowing for grip and bleed the typical trimmed size is A3 with edge to edge printing. The press runs at up to 4,000 A4 sides per hour in full colour or over twice the speed in mono. It handles stock from 100gsm for letterhead through to 350gsm for covers or business cards. It prints both sides in one pass in very tight register. Ours is a 7 colour press, normally running using C, M, Y, K colours but with facility to print in hexachrome using pantones orange and violet or, especially for photo books, light cyan and light magenta (great for authentic skin tones). We also run specific pantones to precisely match your corporate colours and those which are hard to emulate in CMYK.
